Very friendly staff .. Larry the owner is very welcoming...great prices! My hubby orders the started shrimp every time and states its the best he's had. I have had all the way from meatloaf to the steak and cheese hoggie ... salad ... I must say I am a fan of their potato salad... The potions are hugeeeeeeeee Love the singing on Wednesday nights :)

The C Clam is a nice neighborhoody fish house. No frills but good food. It has a casual semi outdoor bar. The staff is easy going, but I get the hint they won't take any crap (especially the women). Good place to take out of town visitors without having to drive all the way to the beach. Id say the prices are a few dollars per plate too much. But its local and what you save on gas you can spend a shrimp basket.

Cute little local's establishment. We were after whole belly fried clams like you get in New England. I did a yelp search and found this place. Prices were great...clearly not a tourist trap. The staff was friendly and attentive. We arrived just before the late dinner rush, perfect timing. Drinks were inexpensive, don't expect good wine! But if you like beer and hard liquor then you're in luck. We ordered a fried scallop basket and a whole belly fried clam dinner. The dinner was huge! The scallops were awesome, fried to perfection. The clams...meh...bland but yummy. You could tell the simply coated in plain flour. Where's the corn meal and seasonings in the coating? Anyway, good meal all and all, we'll go back for another visit.

They have the most awesome tuna steak Phillies I've ever had and the people are over friendly. They'll even sit in your lap if you ask them. Great place to go. Ask for Vicky.

Where to start. We are native New Englanders that came in from the cold and moved to Florida. We were a group of 6 that had an assortment of dishes. Clam dinner, scallop dinner, lobster roll, haddock dinner. Appetizers of onion rings, mussels, shrimp, steamers. Everything was amazing. Service was good. Only down side was limited parking. If your from NE and want great seafood here this is the place.

We drove over an hour to have dinner at the Casual Clam. It was a Friday night around 730. Parking is an issue at the Clam, we had to park at the Post Office across the street. We were seated as soon as we walked in. The waitress took our drink order and came right back to take our order. I asked for an appetizer of the New England Steamers, and we all ordered the Fish and Chips. The Steamers were good no problem at this point. The real disappointment came when the fish arrived. All three orders were broken up pieces of Haddock. I am used to getting a whole piece of fish, not pieces of fish. Ok, well maybe it tastes good. Nope the coating was tough bread like without any flavor. The fish inside was dry and over cooked and seemed like it had been around a while. I asked the other two in my party what they thought and they agreed, terrible. So for twelve steamers, 2 orders of Fish and Chips and two Pepsi's $45.00. I am very disappointed and probably will never return.

i used to go to casual clam years ago. i have recently moved to STP and have been there several times now. the food has been very consistent. I think they have some of the best buffalo shrimp i've had. they also serve clambo - which is a 50/50 mix of their gumbo and new england clam chowder - sounds odd, looks even odder - but it is so good!

I loved this place for years and always had great service. My recent visit to Casual Clam was a huge let down and I think that will prevent me from going there again. Our server, Kristy, was rushing us on our orders and out the door. Typically, my girlfriend and I have 4-5 beers each while we sit down and enjoy out dinner. This time we only had 3 beers before we were asked to be cashed out. Mind you, this occurred around 830pm. I could not believe this happened and we saw her do this to other parties which they immediately left as well. The food was great as usual but this left a bad taste in my mouth. Only rating this 2 stars cause of the food. It would've been 1 if the food wasnt on its game.

We visited this restaurant a few years ago, and I was just thinking about it today-- because it is one of the best seafood restaurants West of the Bay. I had to do a search to find it again-- and I am glad I did, because we are headed to Florida in the next week or two. The food is fresh and prepared just right--big, tasty shrimp and clams...and the drinks were cold! You cannot ask for more. We love little Mom and Pop places--- like to support local businesses and love the uniqueness each provides, so this is a great place for us and others looking for a quaint and casual spot for some great food.

This place has everything I want from a divey seafood place! Cheap beer, fresh seafood, outdoor seating, Rays baseball on the TV, and friendly service. We went here one night when I was craving crab legs. $15.99 for a pound of crab legs made my night. I think there were easily a pound and a half of crab on my plate at least. It was enough that the hubs got to join in on the crab cracking fun. Combine that with $1.50 draft Bud lights and I was in heaven. The hubs got the buffalo shrimp. The sauce was a little sweet and not so hot, but the shrimp were cooked perfectly. I don't think you can go wrong with fried seafood here. Check this place out if you want to try somewhere a little less touristy and enjoy some good, affordable seafood.

Frequented mainly by locals the "Clam" has been owned for many years by a couple who lives nearby. The napkins are paper towels. The place-mats are paper w advertisements. While it's not fine dining, it is a convenient place for the neighborhood residents to eat and drink. A few North-easterners that I know have scoffed at the food served here, but it ls not a bad place. My own experience has been okay. I really enjoy the fried oysters, buffalo chicken sandwich and the shrimp in their shrimp baskets are larger than you get elsewhere. The food is not bad, but as I said, it is not fine dining. The Casual Clam has indoor / outdoor seating. The covered, open-air bar area is a better location for eating than the small, drab indoor dining room. If you are hyper-critical, do not even bother trying the Clam. If you are okay with a truly casual environment and average food, give it a try.

If they have had no stars they would get it , diff not waitress fault either I tipped her well but ordered a bloodyary it had a shrimp in it when I bit I to it it tasted like it had been frozen for days which the waitress said all the seafood was flown in fresh daily ??? We live in Florida there should be enough here to buy here ..? Soo I ordered oysters I ate one and had my friends taste what I tasted which was again tasted as if they where frozen for a year we where all very concerned about the temp of them to .i left al but the ones we tasted and was scared of food poisoning after unfortunately for me very terrible food but nice people ..:(

Highly recommend, very small place that at first glance may seem like you won't have a decent meal, very surprised by the seafood and friendliness of the entire staff, prices kinda expensive for some things but overall a good experience.

The crab legs were terrible. Not even hot and weren't fresh at all. The conch fritters were extremely chewy and the green fried tomatoes were so greasy. Will not be back.

This is the third time I've been here and each time the food has been very good. Today I had a simple order of fish and chips with a beer. The fish was tender, and the fries, well, we're fries. I'm always on the lookout, though, when cole slaw arrives. You never know what you're gonna get. Rest assured, even the slaw was good. Our waitress was very busy as the joint was packed; looked like lots of medical professionals there for lunch. She and one other waitress handled the entire floor pretty good. But I could tell some folks weren't thrilled with the service. All in all, a great place and I will be going back.

A neighborhood gem. this place has the most reasonable prices for such fresh flavor-ful food. Servers are friendly and attentive. Atmosphere is nice, not too loud, cool enough whether you are inside or outside. I had the tuna steak and it was cooked perfectly. Abundance of rice and very good honey mustard dressing with the crisp fresh salad. Beers were cold and cheap. Only drawbacks were the amount of smokers and very limited parking. Would be 4 Stars for sure if smoke was eliminated.

Looked on yelp and found this place..great little joint where the regulars go! Had the sweet potato chips with crumbled blue cheese on top..and had a fish sandwich..delicious food and fun group of people! Sat at the bar and meet some great people!! :)- will definitely be back!

I went there for lunch and the food was great and we were served quickly. Definitely a dive bar but good food and a great server, although the glasses for iced tea were a little dirty. I was able to scrape off "something" from the inside of the glass.

  • Pete D.

A couple of locals steered us there (and away from a pricey seafood joint). That was a good thing. Good prices, good seafood and outdoor seating are the highlights. The atmosphere is totally casual - jeans and t-shirts. Adding a few of the more interesting beers to their menu would be good, and a full bar would be great.

  • Alex O.

Pretty good seafood. Had the lobster eggs Benedict which was decent, the lobster portion was slightly overcooked but I still enjoyed my meal. Kinda pricy though for what I received. Seemed like there was only one server for the entire restaurant and it was busy, she was very nice but forgot our mimosa's because she was trying to serve 12 people all at once. One excellent experience, and one slightly below average experience thus far, haven't decided whether or not I want to come back a third time.

I was in St. Pete last week; I looked for casual good seafood that wouldn't cost an arm and a leg. Yelp helped me find the Casual Clam. The food was delicious! Service was fine too, but it was Wednesday night and not too crowded. We ate outside; because there was a bar, there were some smokers. Not a huge problem. Will definitely go back when I'm in St. Pete again!

The Casual Clam is of course, very casual. The atmosphere on the patio is friendly and sociable. I felt like I was with friends. The blackened grouper was scrumptious. My server was Keri (sp). She was friendly, attentive, and chatted with me about the local area. I tried fried green tomatoes for the first time. They were really good.

From start to finish here you go: E N T R A N C E No greeting until we began to seat ourselves. A T M O S P H E R E We weren't informed there was an outside until after we received our drinks. It was night time, and we approached from a side when we arrived that we didn't see the outside dining area. Not sure if we would of sat out there, but the inside was seriously cold. I'm a heavy-set guy that likes it around 70 degrees most of the time, but it was around 67, 68 degrees in there, which is quite chilly, and of course it cools down your food quickly, which it did do. Two waitresses were dressed in faded jeans and t-shirts too old to still be considered casual, and for the prices I would think khakis and a branded t-shirt or polo would be appropriately casual. My kids had to go out to our van and get sweatshirts, and they were still shivering. D I N I N G & S E R V I C E Here's where things took a turn for the worse. The waitresses were intent on hurrying up the customers to close the restaurant I'm assuming. The cook was angry, and yelling at the waitress, which my wife, children, and I felt quite uncomfortable. We had to ask to have our drinks refilled numerous times, and my children were actually holding their glasses in the air like they were in school raising their hands to ask the teacher a question. Once again, for the price$ it would be reasonable to expect more than just fresh fish, but also exemplary service. Casual doesn't mean complacent, incompetent, rude, and lazy. It means khakis, polos, comfort, hospitable, pleasant, positive, and relaxing; none of which we experienced. F O O D We had the following: Crab Cakes Appetizer $9 (pricey, but they were large & excellent) 6 Oysters on the half shell $7 (pricey, I'm thinking Chinese Buffet) Blackened Mahi Sandwich & Fries $8 (my wife said it was oily, but it was HUGE) Buffalo Chicken Sandwich & Fries $8 (my son loved it, and it was HUGE) Fisherman's Platter $30 (I had it, enough for 2 ppl, was good not great) Three kids dinners $7ea. (typical fish, chicken strips & fries) The fish was fresh, and in my opinion it was cooked well, but because it was so cold in the restaurant everyone's food was cold in a few minutes. Once our food was cold, no one ate much. We ended up with two stuffed To Go boxes, while my kids and wife had to continue to ask to get their drinks refilled before we left. Fried foods were merely floured and deep fried; no seasoning. The rest was pretty bland, but once again the fish was fresh. They need some help in the seasoning and batter departments. P R I C E Knowing the fish is fresh and cooked properly are only part of the requirements when I know I'm going to fork out a Benjamin for six of us to eat what we hope to be a pleasant dinner. Considering the ratings we reviewed on a few sites prior to going here, we knew we were going to spend, but we didn't appreciate a lot of the other discomforts. S U G G E S T I O N S Overhall... Would I return to eat there again? -no Would I recommend to others? -no I've had much better service at a Long John Silvers. The atmosphere totally made me feel like I got wallet raped by greedy, spoiled, unmotivated, unprofessional local brats that think they have the market cornered with "fresh fish."

Outdoor area is nice. That is it. I love seafood and ordered a multitude of things. Ironically the worst of it was the clams, honestly they tasted skunky and the haddock though a large portion was also not very good. Won't be returning.

The quick version: New Englanders say it's authentic. Non-New Englanders remain unimpressed (myself included). The outdoor bar was fun. On a nice day if you kind of squint your left eye facing the street you can kind-of delude you are at the beach enjoying the weather, drinking your beer and awaiting your lovingly salted fried food. I had the fried whole Ipswitch clam dinner (way too much food, I am a big guy and I could not finish it...also expensive, so generally speaking not worth the extra cost) and a bunch of beers. Usually that second part there would make fried shoe leather taste like The Most Amazing Thing Ever (I am a happy drunk), but unfortunately this was not the case at The Casual Clam. In terms of cooking technique, the "Dinner" was cooked to perfection...but was made from utterly bland ingredients. If that is authentic, then cheers, but I'll look to some other region for great seafood. Not asking for Lobster Diablo, just something with some little subtlety or other to tickle or otherwise delight. This was more of a slog through a not-so-fun task I paid handsomely to undertake. Major flavors were that subtle fresh clam flavor, and white flour. That was about it. Granted, I only had one item, but I would definitely give at least that dish a hearty "avoid." I wish I would have just had the reasonably-priced happy hour beers and left it at that.

  • Adrienne C.

My girlfriend and I went here based on the yelp reviews. We were craving crab and looking for a more "affordable" option that didn't require us driving out to the beach. I'm glad we did! The crab was good....beer was cheap....and we love the casual atmosphere. It feels like a friendly neighborhood bar....the service is good and the staff is friendly! And we love that they don't pester you to death while you are eating. Their sides aren't fantastic but I like the potato salad the best. I'm there for the crab so I don't care all that much about the sides. This is our new "go-to" seafood place for tasty crab at a decent price!

  • Steve P.

one of the best local eats around. The Clambo is the best!!!! And the waitresses are really nice to the whole family. This place is the only place I have ever been where they were this nice to my child. Take that plus good prices, great food, this is a place I will visit everytime I'm back in town. Don't believe the negative post.. this place is great.

  • Myrrh R.

I have been here more than 10 times and in the interest of honesty, I always get the crab legs, so my opinion is quite skewed. But I will say that I am always happy with them. The sides are okay... but the legs are always awesome. I don't really like to eat inside because it's kind of close quarters, but when the outside is open and the weather is nice, that's where I go. Don't expect fancy. It's a friendly, super casual place to fill up on great legs! p.s. - I've been there with people who ordered different menu items and they seem pleased with them. I just go for the crab!

The New England steamers were awesome. I had the Mahi sandwich grilled. It wasn't too bad. The service was great and my glass never went past half way. I definitely will be coming back in the near future.

We chose the Casual Clam off of an internet search to meet family half way. The Clam is in a area that looks like it is going through revitalization, some shady streets, some nice. The clam sits on the road by itself. It looks like nothing on the outside. Once in side it lived up to it's name of Casual. about 9 tables, papertowels on them for napkins, not fine dinning. It is the kind of quirky, non chain place we were looking for. The waitress was very friendly and patient as we chatted quite a while before ordering. We ordered appetizers first. Smoked Fish Dip, Fried green tomatoes, and Conch Fritters. Every thing was fantastic. Conch Fritters I have to say were the best I have ever had. The fried green tomatoes were light and non greasy. The cornmeal breading was crispy and the tomatoes had a nice bite. The smoked fish dip was right up there in my top five picks. Taste was great, served on Iceberg with crackers on the side. We ordered our dinner, I chose the shrimp po'boy with pasta salad. The pasta salad was the star! It had such a good flavor, noodles cooked just right. The po'boy had an abundance of crispy fried shrimp. The were just right, non greasy with a fresh taste. The other orders were greek salads, my family raved about them. They were huge and could have easily been shared. A buffalo chicken sandwhich with fries, a very large piece of breaded chicken that was moist and the wing sauce appeared to have been marinated into the chicken, with a slight sweetnes. The last one was the blackened grouper sandwhich with cole slaw. The cole slaw was good, the grouper, fantastic!!! My sister ordered it without the bun. It was a supersized piece of grouper, blacken with a lot of flavor, but not so hot you couldn't eat it. Everyone was extremely satisfied with their meal, we were not rushed, sat there quite a while, the waitress was attentive, but not intrusive. I would recommend to anyone to seek out this wonderful gem off the beaten path.

I hate when i review a place and i basically repeat everything everyone else has said about the place. The casual clam is casually average. Not bad, not great, not the kind of place you'd write home about. Unless your the kind of person that writes home alot. I guess it was ok? Is it weird that I'm saying i guess? I don't kno, i might be back, the clam chowder's pretty affordable. Yea i guess ill be back for the cheap clam. lol who doesnt like cheap clam? lol

  • Sandy H.

Not very good. I got fried haddock, and the fish was dry...VERY disappointing. Management, to their credit, did not charge for my meal, and that is why I am re-rating to two stars instead of one. The people next to us ordered and reordered giant plates of crab legs, so they were probably good.

Awesome!! If you like New England seafood this IS the place!!! As good as I have grown up with back in Massachusetts! EXCELLENT Whole Belly clams-REAL Maine steamahs- Great chowder, scallops, Haddock, shrimp, etc etc etc. EVERYTHING you're looking for here. Give it a try-you WON'T be disappointed. Full bar as well. Sit inside or outside. Nothing fancy-just real, good, authentic New England Seafood. Great prices too. Sara is an awesome server. Very attentive. Love the "Clam".

The Casual Clam is just what the name implies, casual with seafood. Their staple is the $29.99 all-you-can-eat snow crab legs which is always available. The Clam makes great fried seafood too. My favorite is the shrimp basket - 10 large, perfectly crispy, not over-breaded shrimp with fries or the side of your choice for $9.99! It's really filling and incredibly delicious. The fries are always crispy too which is a huge plus in my book. Wifey ordered the fried oyster basket with fries. They offer a couple breeding options and she chose "Cajun" which seemed more of a style of breeding than actual Cajun seasoning. Whatever the case they were good sized and tasted terrific. The clam has napkin rolls on the table and it's got a nice greasy spoon kinda feel to it. The covered patio area borders 9th Street so there's not a great ambiance, but you also don't pay for ambiance either. Give it a try the next time you have a fried shrimp jones going on and you won't be disappointed.

Good local spot. We went in for lunch on Saturday around 1pm. No wait, the patio has fans but it was still a bit warm but pleasant. This is a simple, no fuss place, which I love about it. The lobster roll was good but I'll be interested in trying some of their other options. They've got some really big picnic tables, which could seat about 12 adults comfortably on the patio, so that would be great for a group of friends looking to hang out on a Friday or Saturday night. TVs at the bar for the sports fans.

Great little hole in the wall (well, it is a free standing building). Serves true New England whole belly clams and lots of other great seafood dishes. The Cajun Popcorn Shrimp will bring beads of sweat to your forehead, yet not blow you away with too much heat. My wife gets them lightly fried and they're cooked to perfection. Not a seafood lover? I'd go for their Philly Cheesesteak. Always great flavor and cooked to perfection. BTW - their draft beer is icy cold, perfect for offsetting the Cajun Shrimp

Tonight we went to the Casual Clam. It was. Everything you could want in a diver seafood restaurant. The food was great and the wait staff was. Very good. Three of us got the all you can eat crab legs. They were awesome. Good meaty crabs. There was no need to put them in butter they tasted great just out of the steamer. The waitress brought the refills at the right moment to make sure we were eating hot crab. Another one of us got the crab cakes that were good and so big she has one left for lunch tomorrow. The last of us had fish and chips that were good. This was my first time here but not the last. I might call it regular clam instead of casual clam!

OK for a crab shack in the middle of St. Pete. The usual pop-country, crab legs, and other fried stuff. Prices are cheaper than the Shrimp Store, but not quite as nice an ambiance.

I used to love going here but I feel it's gone down. The clam chowder is still pretty good but the rest of the food was below average. We sat outside and people at the bar were smoking which was blowing right in our direction, disgusting. There is limited seating so keep that in mind.

Best fried clams and lobster roll. Clam chowder was great like Maryland style. Customer service is a plus. We will come back for the shrimp next time

Went there and ordered garlic mussels, crab cake sandwich and sushi tuna and we're extremely happy with all 3 meals. The broth in the garlic mussels was awesome with no strong garlic after taste..comes with garlic bread and so delicious in dipping..the amt of rare tuna was crazy for under 11 dollars. The crab cake was very large and thick not greasy and just great..can't wait to return!!

Good food fair prices. I don't eat seafood so this isn't the type of place I would seek out but it somehow has become somewhat of a monthly trip. I like the burgers with choice of cheeses and the philly cheesesteaks.

The best thing about lunch here the the beer. Pretty much the worst fish dip ever. Although my friend is enjoying his salad with blackened chicken..Although he states ts not up to par either. He's a reg..im not...and now I know why...only came by default om black friday... place needs much improvement. The ahi tuna appetizer waa decent although if u smothered it in sauce it was passable but again friend says not up to par. Have to wonder what par might be here.

A group of 6 family and friends of mine all came here together for dinner on a Saturday around 7. This is a small place and has the seating split half and half between inside and out. It was nearly completely full and we had to park across the street as their lot was packed. As far as the environment goes, this place is nothing fancy. Feels a bit old and run down and very simple things like paper plates, wooden bowls for salad and a roll of paper towels on the table in place of napkins. It didn't feel extremely clean, but the food was good (more on that to come). They have a few TVs at the bar outside for anyone wanting to watch the game. My family ordered the oysters and fried green tomatoes. I tried a few oysters, they were extremely fresh and a big size too. Also had the clam chowder soup which everyone agreed was fabulous. For my meal i got the haddock nuggets with coleslaw. I guess I wasnt as hungry as i thought because after the soup and oysters I was already full. The haddock wasn't overwhelmingly impressive and actually a bit on the boring side. Even with the tartar sauce it had no flavor and wasn't very crispy for fried shrimp. That was a bit of a let down. I almost thought about asking the server to bring me something else, but I didn't wanna be "that kind" of annoying customer. On another side note, they seem to have some great drink specials here including 2-4-1 during certain times and $2 rolling rock cans which is a perk. Overall this is an okay local spot to grab some seafood in a no frills type of environment. I would return again if someone else wanted to try it, but I probably wouldn't go out of my way to come.

Whole belly clams are not easy to find in Florida. We were so excited to discover Casual Clam in St. Pete. We are from New England and know excellent seafood when we taste it.....and we tasted it here! The clams are awesome and the portions on the clam dinner are HUGE. The shrimp, scallops, clam chowder, coleslaw and fries are also extremely good. The only thing we have had on one of our past visits that we didn't care for were the onion rings.....waaaaay too overdone. We drive over an hour to come here and will continue to do so. The staff is very friendly and accommodating. Atmosphere is not the best, but who cares when the seafood is this good?!?! YUM!!...a taste of New England here in the sunshine state!

I like to go here every time i'm in the area, usually about once a year. Been there maybe 5 times in the last so many years. The food has always been good - I usually get the fried clams; they are a favorite. I'm not awarding 5 stars because the last visit was not so good and it made me question the restaurant. An order for belly clams was given and and explanation was given that the latest delivery of clams had very small bellies. What came out had no bellies, they were clam strips. We complained and apologies were given. The meal was comp'ed, but that doesn't change the facts. Did they think we wouldn't notice or say something? It doesn't please me to write a negative review, especially with a long good history, but I feel this can't go without comment.

The cool part about the Clam, is this husband/wife team are Florida local and from New England, which means, they know how to double-please their customers. They serve the classic Lobster Roll, right down to the split-top potato-bread. I was really impressed with it; if you have an appreciation for food that is not fried all the time, and love freshness w/ no frills, come give this place a try. You will find locals hanging out watching sports, chatting up local affairs and they make sure your experience is pleasant; if it's not, don't be afraid to say anything, and they would be more than happy to make it right. Keep in mind they have limited indoor seating if you are not okay with smokers; it tended to get pretty smokey out there when the fans were not on. You have now made a new foodie friend in town! I love the Clam. Love love love. My husband and I always order the same thing, and it is always consistently amazing. You cannot go wrong if you're choosing the Clam.

It was just ok. We were really looking forward to a nice fish sandwich for dinner. It was cooked fine but had no flavor at all - the chowder was pretty good. Our server was very nice & helpful. My son loved his huge Burger .

I've been to the Casual Clam many times and given the fact that it's laid back as the name clearly states, I could handle this. However, this past Saturday, i was there with two friends for lunch and encountered a situation that I feel was handled poorly by the management. My friend ordered the clam roll and after about 2 bites, put the food down and said the clams had a foul taste and could not eat it. The server who was nice, was notified. After some time, the server came back and offered my friend a cup of soup! What the....?! The worst part was when we received our tab, she was charged FULL price - she ate her cole slaw, but $13.99 is a bit much for a side. She clearly did not eat the food and we all felt that this may be our last Casual Clam outing after this. I know the place has been around a long time, but clearly not the way to handle the situation.
